RS - Installation Error: AeXsvc
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 8 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I am trying to Install Recovery Solution 7.0, I have Symantec Management Platform 7.0.3876, SP1 7.0.4739, HF1 7.0.4755. Installing it on a freshly installed Windows Server 2003. Using IE7, ASP .net 2.0, IIS, .NET 3.5 (NOT SP1) and Altiris Agent.
I believe I have all of the prerequisite software installed. Here is the error message:
I'm getting to 86% (it used to be 62 or 75) but all the same error message:
A Critical Error Occured:
Failed while stopping service: AeXSvc
Configuration failed when attempting: Restarting services...
and then it will not continue the install and it says installation failed.
Any Help will be appreciated.

Check the logViewer for more information
I haven't tried loading up RS7 yet, but I would take a look at the Logviewer (should be under Diagnostics on the Start menu > Altiris folder) and see what showed up in the NS log during the install. Unfortunately I haven't done much yet with NS7 so I'm not quite sure where to find the logs other than there, maybe C:\Program Files\Symantec\SIM ?
Thanks,
Kyle

Oh...and you're on a 32bit
Oh...and you're on a 32bit OS, correct? NS7 is currently only supported on Server 2003 32bit. Does the Altiris Service stop and start during the installation?
Thanks,
Kyle

The particular error I see: The service cannot accept control messages at this time
Usually you see this when a Windows service is in the process of stopping or starting already. Do you have any particular "lock down" configurations in effect that might effect service management? Is the Application Identity account part of the Administrators group on the server?

Same issue, but with CMS
I am encountering similar issue when installing Client Management Suite.
What did you mean by "Application Identity account"?
Thank you!
The Application Identity
The Application Identity account is configured during the NS installation and is the domain account that the console uses to run. I suggest doing the same as above and installing just the management platform by itself, then once that is successful go back to SIM and install the full CMS. If this doesn't help, I suggest starting a new Discussion, possibly with a link back to this thread.
Thanks,
Kyle

Fixed it.
I unistalled all of the Altiris programs I had on there and MS-SQL 2005 EE, and reinstalled them. The only difference was I installed just the bare essentials this time (the previous time I had installed the management suite) and I used Mixed mode instead of Windows Authentication. Other than that I'm not sure what I did differently but it installed all of the way this time. thank you Kschroeder for your time and help, I appreciate it.
Trent.
Great Trent, glad I could
Great Trent, glad I could help. Not sure that NS needs Mixed mode (I know that RS does for sure) but that wouldn't have led to the error you were seeing about stopping the services. The method of just installing the core management platform vs. the whole of CMS also seems to be preferable.
Thanks,
Kyle
