This issue has been solved. See solution.

Ok so we had an issue yesterday where our NS wouldnt do anything.. long story short. seemed .net was hosed..

so symantec tech had me run a few command lines to register .net

once we did that he had me run the servername/altiris/ns/install/nssetup.aspx

once this was done.. everything seemed fine..

this morning I ran a report Client Event History (Date Range) as i normally do..

we have 11 sites with 11 RS clusters..each site has its own SQL server housing its own AEXRSDATABASE

first 2 work great.. im in good shape.. then the next one fails.. then all others fail.. only 2 work.

after some digging on google and symantec i found this..

All Recovery Solution Reports Fail

so trying to follow this for sql 2005

refers to this

You can also use the SQL Query Analyzer (in Microsoft SQL Management Studio) to implement that. In the following example (should be executed on the SQL Server which is serving the Notification Server database)

USE master
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'Put_SQL_Server_for_RS_here', 'SQL Server'
EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname='Put_SQL_Server_for_RS_here', @useself='false', @rmtuser='AeXRSDatabaseUser', @rmtpassword='put_password_here'

here is where im stumped...
so first use master??? not sure why but anyway.. i can figure that out.. what i dont get is the next part...

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'Put_SQL_Server_for_RS_here', 'SQL Server'

ok if I put say sql server name in for first failing site is it by name or ip or by cluster name?

then next line.. ok same thing.. sql server for rs here...

Thanks for letting us know.

You "use master" because you are adding the other SQL servers as a linked servers to the whole SQL server, not just the Altiris database.
