  • 1.  RU5 not managing Windows 7

This is strange. We have 5 or 10 Windows 7 machines on our network and when we deploy RU to them from the "Find Unmangaed Computers" screen everything seems to go fine and it actaully installs RU5 perfectly onto the system.  It just never gets the managment information, even after a reboot or just letting the system sit for a few hours.

This is what the TroubleShooting Screen Looks like:

Any idea on how to move these systems into a managed state?

How to change a Symantec Endpoint Protection client from unmanaged to managed

1.Copy of the file Sylink.xml from the server from C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\outbox\agent\(numbered folder)
    2. On the client computer , click Start > Run, type smc -stop, and click OK.
    3. Copy the Sylink.xml into the C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection folder, and replace any existing Sylink.xml file.
    4. Click Start > Run, type smc -start, and click OK.

I prefer to deploy install packages to client via PushDeploymentWizard.
This client is self managed. That's why you cannot see it in Sep Manager.
you can manage this client with sylinkdrop.exe (Syamntec cd 2 > tools)
first export your xml properties in Clients tab in SEP Manager. than import this xml with Sylinkdrop.exe
    I hope this will help.
If need more help please write in here again.
    thanks.

Thanks for the information but is this the only way to get these clients to be managed and can it not be done from the SEPM Console?

Yes you can push the client from the SEPM either by using the migration and deployment wizard or you can use the find unmanaged detector wizard. Once you push the client from the SEPM then it will become managed.
