  • 1.  Run Cleanwipe Silently and with No Reboots

    Hello.

I'd like to run cleanwipe from an Altiris DS job.  In order to do this I'd like to suppress cleanwipe's prompts and it's automatic reboots.

I've noticed if I run cleanwipe interactively (by just running runcleanwipe.bat), go through the prompts it provides and select no to reboots, it runs and doesn't reboot.  If I then run cleanwipe by going (runcleanwipe.bat -silent) it runs with no prompts but reboots the server twice.

I looked through the runcleanwipe.bat script and noticed one section where you can manually set some of the run time parameters of cleanwipe.  However if I set the reboot variable to 0 it still reboots if I use runcleanwipe.bat -silent.

Is there a way to configure cleanwipe to run silently with no forced reboots?

Any info would be very appreciated.

If you have got the clean wipe tool from Symantec I would request you to qoute the case number associated or else you can call back support with the same case number and get the information.

    Hi Lowteq,

From the command line, RunCleanWipe –silent will avoid the prompts to the user.  But I understand that Cleanwipe is hard-coded to reboot.  This can't be changed.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Hello Mick.

    Thanks for the information.

It sounds like using cleanwipe might not be the best way to automate the removal of old SAV clients.  Is there some other way the community can recommend for automating the removal of SAV 9.x and 10.x clients using Altiris DS or SMS?  The deployment of SEP 11 is easy enough, but getting the old stuff off seems pretty difficult.

    Hi again,

There shouldn't be any need to remove the old SAV clients first.  Just install SEP right over them and they will even keep most of the existing settings.
    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick

    lowteq,

If you export the package as a single .exe, there is intelligence built in that will automagically remove a SAV 9.x or SAV 10.x client.

The cleanwipe prompts basically create the answer file.  There may be a way to create the answer (ini??) file manually - Support would be the best bet I'm afriad.

In terms of SEP package, as above, if SAV 9x, 10x is installed when you run SEP on a client PC, the package will uninstall SAV first (ALTHOUGH NOTE - SEP files will mainly be installed in C:\Program Files\Symantec Antivirus and not the documented C:\aProgram Files\Symantec\Symantec EndPoint Protection - only clean. fresh installs of SEP go to the documentated location).
