Run a windows BATCH file with Netbackup

Created: 26 Mar 2009 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 8 comments

Hi all,

I want to know if I can to run a script file (Windows batch file) with NetBackup???
Netbackup run a backup and after that I want to run a batch file.

Ex: I do a SQL database backup, than I run Netbackup script to truncate the log files and than I want to run Windows script (batch) to SRINK (physical remove) the log files.

Is this possible?

Thanks
Marius D.

Marius,

Check out this seer document.  It's not the approach you were trying, but it's the best option:

Netbackup is really not the tool to use for shrinking sql databases.  Use the MSSQL maintenance plans for that.  You can schedule the server to shrink the databases and recover the disk space that was being used before the transaction log was truncated.

I have check this Doc. but is not what I want.

I want the log's physical remove after a backup. Don't work with truncate. This option just truncate the log file but not remove.

I need a sollution to remove the log after a backup. Exact what SHRINK in SQL makes.

Marius,

This is the job of the SQL server, not Netbackup.  Check the maintenance plans for the SQL server in Sql Server Management Console.

Yes Its not a job of Netbackup but you can configure netbackup to run batch file for other functionalities.

configure bpend_notify to start batch file.

check the below link

Thanks, Karthikeyan Sundaram.

See many many other post - you cannot use bpend and bpstart with netbackup when using the SQL database agent.

I don't have to know how to spell....I work on Unix.
NetBackup 7.0.1 - AIX & Windows

i didnt notify his ex:

Sorry! As per hinchcliffe comment bpstart and bpend can not work with sql backup.

Thanks, Karthikeyan Sundaram.

ok, I know now what can I do.

I have made a srink script on the client.

For the client where it is the SQL database I do also a Windows type backup. Befor or after the windows backup I call the shrink script with bpstart_notify or bpend_notify. I try this tomorrow. I hope to work well. I tell more tomorrow.

Thanks for help.
