This issue has been solved. See solution.

I am really having a problem running low on space on the media server. The jobs are set to overwrite and no append. The OPP is set for 10 days. The volume on which the B2D folder resides is 9TB. What would be the best way to resolve this. I have put the low threshold value to 150GB.Should i bring it down further or is there anything esle i can do to overcome this space issue.

Please advise!

I guess we have discussed

I guess we have discussed this issue in last few weeks. Still you may try below options.

1) If you are using dedup folder then the low disk threshold has to be set at 15% of the total volume.

2) Configure backups jobs to overwrite only

3) In Tools->options->media management-> set the overwrite protection level as "Partial"

4) select "use recycable media media before using scratch media"

5) Run full backup on weekend and incremental jobs on the weekdays.

Regards
Amol

We are not using

We are not using dedup.

Backups are configured as overwrite.

3 options have not been tried however.

4rth options is already done and we are running full backup on weekend and incremental jobs on weekdays.

Still doesnt help

How much data do you backup

How much data do you backup daily ?You may set the Low disk space threshhold accordinlgy .

Can you accomadate 10 backup set on the backup to disk folder ?

If you have followed the instructions from AmolZerocool and still have no luck then you may consider the following points if feesable.

1. Reduce the retension period

2.. Reduce the size of the data by making selection of the important file .

3. Implementing  full and Incremental backup stratergy , if you are running full backup daily .

The backups are taken with

The backups are taken with the full and incremental backup strategy and not running full backup daily.

Basically have web server data which is 1TB, File Servers which is near to 3TB and Exchange which is 700GB.

Other jobs contribute to 2 TB max.  So near to 7TB. Total capacity of the volume is 9TB.

Currently I have set the backup set to 6 jobs on the backup to disk folder. Should i set it to 10?

Reducing retension period is a not quite possible at the moment.

Selections are to only what is required.

Should i go for another external device like an external hard drive.

You need to Add in more disk space that is the only solution I guess. so you should go for another external device . You may go for external harddrive or tape drive it depends upon your company budget>

zak: you might not actually

zak: you might not actually get performance out of an external device, and with the amount of data being backed up, it might take a long time (unless you have a USB 3.0 card and external HDD).

The other option in this case might actually be deduplication backups...

The backup server has a

The backup server has a couple of slots to fit in a few extra harddrives. Would buying a couple of hard drives be an option. I dont have a license for deduplication.

...might be a bit more

...might be a bit more expensive, but it would be better.
