  • 1.  Running a task question!!

    Posted Sep 10, 2010 10:35 AM

If I run a task (say for example 'copy file' job) for 50 laptops. what happens if the laptops are offline. How long will it keep checking till the job fails. ? The reason I ask is I have done that (suprisingly) and 50% timed out. Is there anyway to keep this job active so when eventually the laptops come online they got this file copied ?

    Thanks

    Joe.

It's based on your task timeout.  Click 'Advanced..' and then the 'Run Options' tab, and you have a timeout value in minutes.  If they're off for more than the minutes, the task will fail.

    Log in to Console
    Manage > Jobs and Tasks
In the left pane, select your job
In the right pane, click the Advanced... button
Modify the setting under Run Options tab
    Click OK
    Click Save Changes

If you highlight a failed Quick run, and click the details button, and drill down, what are the failure messages?

A workaround would be to create a job that seeks to perform a task (that does have a timeout) before your Copy File task (which does not have a customizable timeout, from what I can see).  For example, you could run a Power Control task to Turn On the computer, and use the Advanced.. button to set a timeout of 2160 minutes (36 hours) before trying the Copy File task.

That's better than what I have in v6 today.  Glad to see this is improved in v7!
