Running two versions of pcAnywhere

Created: 05 Sep 2012 • Updated: 03 Oct 2012 | 3 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

We have a number of clients that are still running pcAnywhere 11.x and 12.1, but some are now starting to move to 12.5 SP4. We'll get them all there eventually, but in the meantime, is it possible to have two versions of pcAnywhere (12.1 and 12.5) running side-by-side, so we can access both levels of hosts?

We had this same issue and could not find a way to run them side by side.  Symantec support also informed us that this would not be possible.

For our helpdesk staff, it was critical that they could connect to all versions, especially during the transition to the new pcA version.  Our solution was to run the old version virtualized with VMWare. This worked for us since the number of people who had a need to connect to older versions was limited.

Good Luck

You could use the webremote for the older versions maybe as an option if you can get it to work.   The web remote isn't supported in sp4 and the older versions didn't support modern Java.

Use the web remote from the 442 install cd and then updated the following components from this KB and it should be working mostly with current java versions.  Then you can use webremote to connect to 12.5 sp3 and older installs.
