SAP policy type: File list in the NBconsole not showing all backed up files
Updated: 28 Oct 2010 | 13 comments
Hello
Recently I upgraded SAP client from 5.1 MP5 to 6.5.4 and I spotted that at the NBconsole or JAVA GUI console (while double clicking on the job, in the Job Overview window, the section file list) - I do not see any more all files which are sent to backup serever - only the very first. Do you have the same issue in you env?
Of course if I will run bplist agains this backup image I can see all files, but why I cant see them in the Job Overview section??

I belive the GUI it will not
I belive the GUI it will not dispally the full list of files that are bing backed up.it displays only the first datafile. so you have to run the bplist command i.e
bplist -S <master server> -C <client name> -t 17 -s mm/dd/yyyy -l -R /

hmm
this is what I have observed. As I mentioned with the old NBU client SW I could see all datafiles sent to backup - with new one I can't any longer!
Check for SAP 6.5.5 patch
Just make sure you applied the 6.5.5 SAP patch as well.
The initial 6.5 SAP integration was pretty insufficient. E.g was all policy related error's not shown in the activity monitor nor in the SAP backint output. You had to look for the error's in the backint log.

checked
I am on 6.5.4 SAP patch level since I did not found the 6.5.5. NBU server is on 6.5.5 on Windows w2k3.
Yes, you are right
There are no 6.5.5 SAP patch, Sorry for the confusion. But I think you got the message anyway ;-)

only I do have such issue?
Are you able to see all datafiles sent to backup via nbconsole of java gui??
No
I do not see the files from a SAP backup, unless I open the job and look at the "detailed status" -> Current File.
Do you backint or RMAN based SAP backup's ?. RMAN based SAP backups are stream based and will not show any file names.

Backint
I am using backint - so the begin/end backup statement.
The thing is that before 6.5.4 in the tab "Job Overview" I saw all files now only one.
So either the SAP agent changed its behavior or this is a bug.
But looks like its the new behaviour :(
Confirm behavior.
I just checked my setup and can confirm the behavior. Only the first file of the backup is shown in the "job overview" picture.

quebek, I can confirm this is
quebek, I can confirm this is also 6.x behaviour. We saw this also, for our SAP agent backups when moved to release 6 of NBU.
Tip: Get overview/document your NBU environment. Run 'nbsu' and review the output.

not that I am complaining or what ;)
but the behavior prior 6.x was better ;)
There were times that I used this files list from NBconsole to create a restore job! Now I have to play with bplist to gather this information. In the 5.x it was simpler ;) - but even still I am managing this ;) he he
Totally agree with you that
Totally agree with you that 5.x was better, gave you confidence in your backup without having to delve deeper now.
However, they also added some extra logging, as I can recall.
If you have on the SAP client the following logs directories created (or may well be auto created!)
/usr/openv/netbackup/logs/user_ops/dbext/logs
In here are some interesting files and looks similar to what you might have seen in NBU 5. Job Details.
particularly the files ending in .prog.pcd.std
Tip: Get overview/document your NBU environment. Run 'nbsu' and review the output.

Agree with you
But I wouldn't switch my 6.5 environment for a 5.1 one. NBU 5.1 have some deep problems doing media allocation in large environments.
Then better accept the SAP implementation had some trade-offs ;-)
PS: bplist isn't that bad, when you rember to use the -R flag every time.
