    We are in the process of migrating from Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.8 to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11. I have been reading through the migration documentation and it appears as though we can have Symantec AntiVirus Server (the legacy 10.1.8 one) and Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager on the same server simultaneously to ease our migration path. This is great but I am a little confused on what to do with Symantec System Center (for the legacy one). It is my understanding that you have to uninstall system center before you can install the endpoint protection manager but please correct me if I am wrong. In the FAQ at http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007071909500548 it states that prior to migration:

    1. Use Symantec System Center to configure settings for the management server and clients that prepare them for migration. These settings changes are: disable scheduled scans, modify Quarantine purge options, delete histories, disable LiveUpdate, disable roaming, unlock server groups, and disable Tamper Protection. Install the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
    I am a little confused about the unlock server group part. I can go into protection manager and unlock the server group but how do I keep the window up if I uninstall system center? Since when I close system center it automatically locks the server group.

    Install Symantec endpoint Manager
    Migrate all your clients to SEP 11.0
    Once all done;
    remove SSC
    reboot the server
    install SEP on the server
    SEPM and SSC can coexist happily

    Unlock is not necessary so far i have not faced any problem with install; SSC was closed ; groups were locked; migration was successful
