SAV for Linux 1.0.7 erases data in the liveupdate.conf file
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 3 comments
We we use our local liveupdate server to update to the latest virus definitions the /etc/liveupdate.conf file gets erased. This happens on all of or Linux servers except two (RHEL5). The two system that still contain data after the upgrade actually converts the liveupdate.conf file to a binary data file. Which is OK because it still works.
All of the other systems actually update to the correct version but since the liveupdate.conf file is empty the next time the live update command is issued the command hangs and never recovers.
Has anybody else experienced this behavior before?
Is there an option to the the liveupdate system to leave that file alone?
This effects ( RHEL4, Fedora 5, 9 ) systems.

Hi CoolC, The trick might be
Hi CoolC,
The trick might be in how exactly you're configuring the SAVFL clients to retrieve their updates. Have you seen this article yet?
Configuring Symantec Antivirus for Linux (SAVFL) to download definitions from the Distribution Center of an internal LiveUpdate Administrator (LUA) 2.x Server
I don't have a SAVFL that retrieves from a LUA in front of me right now, but if I remember correctly, the liveupdt.hst file was processed the first time that Java LiveUpdate was run on the Linux box.
That liveupdt.hst file created in the LUA 2.x GUI and exported can't be read in a text editor, but SAVFL knows what to do with it. The necessary settings were read and automatically processed into a different config file, and SAVFL thereafter went looking right for the LUA's configured Distribution Center.
If you've been trying to aim the Linux box at the LUA DC by manually altering files, try dropping that exported file on instead.
Best of luck!
Mick

SEPM liveupdate for SAVFL
Hello There,
I'm new to SEPM and would like to like to ask whether does it support liveupdate for SAVFL.
Currently installed packages is for windows workstations and servers.
Would like to use this SEPM as a central liveupdate for all machine in my environment.
Thanks and looking forward to hear from the guru ...
regards,
CK
blank liveupdate.conf
This was happening to me until I installed JCE into the Java installation that SAVFL was using.
SEPM can't manage or update SAVFL clients at this time. You could use LUA -- see above document link.
