SAV for NAS/Scan Engine 5.2.11 - Can;t get LiveUpdate Working

  • 1.  SAV for NAS/Scan Engine 5.2.11 - Can;t get LiveUpdate Working

    Posted Feb 23, 2012 05:00 AM

    Hi guys,

    I have followed the below KBS - we have SAV for NAS 5.2.11 on Windows 2008 R2:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH152863

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO65770

    I can access the Liveupdate site via proxy server from the server fine.  I have editted liveupdate.conf as follows, but it doesn;t update - how can I force it to try and update?  Also I have downloaded the LUA program - what defs do I need to pick - is it Liveupdate > Java Liveupdate?  Do I need to edit conf file to point to local LUA install if the first method does not work?

    # LiveUpdate.conf

    hosts/0/url=http://liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com:80/

    hosts/1/url=http://liveupdate.symantec.com:80/

    cacheMode=false

    downloadCachesize=5368709120

    maxPackageContentSize=2147483647

    maxPackageSize=2147483647

    proxy=10.xxx.xx.xx:8080

    proxyusername=****\*******

    proxypassword=**********

    logfile=C:\Program Data\Symantec\Java LiveUpdate\liveupdt.log

    workdir=C:\Program Data\Symantec\Java LiveUpdate\Downloads

    Thanks

    This is the message I receive in the console:

    "Java LiveUpdate Error" - scroll to the right to see....

    I have tired install LUA as well as manually downloading updates.  Question :

    - What def type is it?  I am trying Liveupdate > Java Liveupdate for Windows

    - What directroy should it be copied down to?  I have tried pointing it directly (running Windows 2008 R2) C:\Program Data\ Symantec\Java Liveupdate\Downloads.

    Thanks people!

    It sounds like you may be trying to use LiveUpdate Administrator to install definitions for Scan Engine? LUA is to be installed on a server to download definitions and provide them to Liveupdate clients on your LAN. It cannot download and install definitions for Scan Engine, only Java Liveupdate can do that. I would suggest posting your c:\programdata\symantec\java liveupdate\liveupdt.log file so we can see what errors JLU is seeing when trying to download the definitions.

    Thanks a lot JDavis,

    I disagree a little for LUA - whether the server is local or on another box - documentation states it  should be able to update scan engine defs i.e articles showing how to point to central LU server.  However I have uninstalled it on the box as isn;t doing anything on this test server, so I agree on that point.

    Where is the liveupdate.conf file that you edited? This clearly shows us going straight out to the internet for updates, not talking to your proxy.

    I suspect that you may be editing the c:\programdata\symantec\java liveupdate\liveupdate.conf file when you really need to be editing the file in c:\program files (x86)\symantec\scan engine\.

    Hi there, the only one I have edited is C:\\ProgramFiles (x86)\Symantec\Scan Engine.

    The jlu log isn;t updating anymore either.

    Should I try installing SE again?  Can I delete the contents of the java liveupdate\donwloads folder (theres folders with funny names, but all empty.

    Thanks for your continued help.

    Is there a way for me to manually down the updates for this?

    I really need to get them up to date then continue to working on LU.

    Much appreciated.

    You can update them manually using this document:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH98065.

    One thing I noticed:

    From your liveupdate.conf:

    workdir=C:\Program Data\Symantec\Java LiveUpdate\Downloads

    From the log:

    22-Feb-2012 23:09:00 No working directory configured, JLU will default to C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Java LiveUpdate\Downloads.

    The path in the conf file has a space between Program and Data.

    But there is one other part that is confusing:

    22-Feb-2012 23:09:25 Connecting to update.symantec.com via FTP ...

    You don't have that host in the conf file you pasted in. Can you attach the actual file and the liveupdate.xml file from C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Scan Engine\ so I can test it? You can blank out the proxy info if you want and I will put my own proxy info in and test the file to see if it works on my Scan Engine server.

    Greetings,

    Looking through this thread, if you are wanting to use LUA,(for 2.2) be sure that the product has been added correctly and is set in the distribution and schedule to download the updates.  Also from the LUA server, you would need to generate a java version of the hosts file and copy it over to the Scan Engine server.

    From the log provided it does appear that JLU is trying to make a connection out to the internet. Be sure that the Server has open ports on 80 and 21(FTP is used when port 80 fails).

    Here is the documentation for LUA:
