This issue has been solved. See solution.

I am having some issues with Symantec EndPoint on a laptop.  I was doing some maintenance when I noticed that they virus definitions were out of date (Sept. 08, 2009).  I attempted to run liveupdate, but it immediately failed.  Afterwards I downloaded the latest virus definition file from the Symantec website.  It could not find a Symantec Product to update.  Finally I decided to uninstall and re-install the product.  I have totally uninstalled the product.  Followed the instructions found here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007073018014248.  Next I re-installed from a fresh download from the Symantec Website.  I consistently get an error 1603 when trying to install.

Attached is one of the SEP_INST.log files.

Thank You.

Hi,

You can check if you have liveupdate listed in control panel. If you do, please uninstall it. You can also check if you have spbbc driver present in Device Manager-> Click on view & chose Show Hidden Devices-> Expand Non-Plug & Play devices-> Right click on SPBBC, uninstall. Reboot the machine and try the install again.

I have totally removed

I have totally removed Symantec to the best of my ability.  I don't have access to the cleanwipe program yet.  I have deleted every entry in the registry for Symantec and LiveUpdate.  I have removed every folder (except my source files) that had the word "Symantec" or "LiveUpdate" from the computer prior to attempting the re-install.  I am not sure about the SPBBC.  I will have to check on that tonight when I get home.

Okay after running the

Okay after running the cleanwipe and following the instructions here http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/docid/2009061614434248?Open&seg=ent.  I then verified that all Temp directories were cleaned up and installed LiveUpdate by it's self.  The installation worked so I then installed the Antivirus.  After about 20 minutes everything was installed and running.  I must have missed deleting something somewhere...  I think the cleanwipe found it all.

Thank You for the help!

Need to do a registry tweak

I had issues for days and days and finally came across the link/instructions below.

My issue was that the install would get about 3/4's through and then do a roll back with no errors, nothing.  My Event Viewer said that same.

I followed this below and it worked like a charm.  I'm very glad to be ablet to contribute.

A few extra steps though to do first.

First, disable your windows firewall completely.  Also turn off the UAC completely.  Lastly turn off Windows Defender.

THEN make the registry tweak and reboot.

Finally... install.

Here's the instructions for the registry tweak.

http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/docid/2009061614434248?Open&seg=ent

In the registry,

Find

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData

find:  value=%APPDATA%

and change it to

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData

value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

Reboot aqnd install SEP client again
