SBS 2003 Bear Metal Server Swap Out
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 2 comments
I am interested in knowing if anyone has used Backup Exec System Recovery to move from old hardware to new hardware in an SBS 2003 Exchange environment. I have a old but functioning Gateway server and would like to move to a new Dell server. I would like to discuss the details with someone who has used the product in this way.
The current server is raid 1 (Drive C) for the os and raid 5 for the data (Drive E). There are two NIC's, one for intranet and one for static IP internet access. The current server is backing up to a tape drive with Backup Exec and is running Symantec Endpoint 11. The Exchange database is on drive E.
Thanks for your assistance.

The following technote documents should assist you with more information about the restore process. However if you would like to actually discuss this issue and have a support contract, please open a case for Q&A.

I have purchased the product several times as a external disk drive and Backup Exec System Recover 8.0 package. I currently use it at several peer to peer sites for backup.
Does this establish a support contract and if not how does one purchase a support contract seperately?
How do you go about opening a case for Q&A?
After watching the video on the installation disk it seamed that the product would be ideal for a server swap out I am planning. I have tested it three or four time in my shop on single user machines and it seams to work very well. It is a much more serious deal converting the SBS2003 instalation to new hardware so I am just trying to be prepared.
I would be glad to purchase the 8.5 release just for this task if that is what is required.
Thanks
Don
