I administrate several Small Business 2008 servers.  All are running SEP MR4 MP2.  I cannot find an CLEAR answer if all the proper exclusions are applied automatically such as Active Directory, Exchange and SQL.  I've noticed "Other Alerts" querying in the SBS console is sloooow and wondering if SEP is causing this.  Lastly, if SEP is automatically adding the exclusions, I'm not seeing them in the registry.

SEP only adds exclusion for Exchange ( iguess you must be having exch 2007 )
to check the exclusions in registry llok at

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\AV\Exclusions\Exchange Server   ( for 32 bit)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432node\Symantec   ( for 64 bit)

    Also check

    For SQL Follow this:
Guidelines for choosing antivirus software to run on the computers that are running SQL Server
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309422

For your Active Directory exclude SYSVOL.

SBS 2008 is 64 Bit only, I beleive.
