Hi All,

We need some solution to scan documents where uploaded to any websites.

For e.g. one of the user wants to attach some documents to yahoo or anywhere. AV should scan those documents for virus or spyware.

Here is the requirement for our project:

1.       We have web application developed for some xyz project.
2.       UI (Browser) of the application provide feature of uploading XML, XLS and PDF files.
3.       We need to scan the documents before storing into database.
4.       What we have got on our machines is antivirus standalone software.
5.       What we need is Symantec Engine.  This comes with JAVA API.
6.       We will code using this API and connect to Engine and scan uploaded documents.

Appreciate for quick response.

Symantec Scan Engine is configured by default to scan all files regardless of extension or type.. Symantec Scan Engine can scan all major file types (for example, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel files). check the install guide and admin guide.

scan engine uses ICAP protocol, so any thing that goes through scan engine the traffic will be scanned.

We have quite a few customers that use Scan Engine in this way. What exactly to you need clarified?

Scan Engine simply sits there waiting for something to request that it scan a file. It will accept those scan requests from anything and anyone. We include an SDK to help you, so all you would need to do is code the connector program that sends the scan request to Scan Engine and it will scan it and give you a verdict.
