    Hi,
    We have a very small business that consists of 10 clients running from 1 server that has SAV Corporate 10.1.8000.

    Due to problems with three of the clients we did a System Restore on them.
    The result is now that they do not show as having a scan engine present in the Symantec Control Centre on the Server.
    So they are not getting any live updates.

    The other 7 clients are still working fine.

    What has happened and how can i fix it>

    You a try a repair on the clients or an uninstall / reinstall

    Thanks for your reply.

    I will try an uninstall / reinstall on one of the clients to see if it works.
    Cannot do this till Tuesday though.

    how far back in System Restore did you do?  Just a couple days or possibly to a point before the client was installed?

    Hi,
     I went back only 3 days. It was working fine before that.

    I have read that having 'Tamper Protection' enabled means you can only do a system restore in safe mode. This is what i had to do because it failed in normal mode.
    I wondered if this could have a bearing on the issue.

    Curious as to what your original problem with the machines was. Was it a virus or something else? I have not seen this issue before so you  might want to call in to support if you don't here an answer in the next couple of days. I will keep looking for a solution however and will keep you updated here.

    Two machines lost their user profiles. (I would have tried a different fix if i had known) and
    the other stopped user logging in to his intranet account.
    These all occurred within 3 days of each other.
    I don't think any are related as the other machines are all ok.
    No virus has been detected or reported.

    My theory, without more information to go on: I remember when I supported the consumer product (Norton) that using System Restore would screw up virus definitions because certain files did not match what the registry thought they should be.  (That was a while ago, though ;) )  This could be what's happening here.

    Have you tried the Intelligent Updater?  I believe it includes the san engine. You will want the one appropriate to SAV 10.1.8.

    I'd definitely also try repairing the installation too.

    Thank you Sandra, I will try the link you gave me today.
    Can you remind me of the procedure to repair the installation? Do you mean uninstalling / reinstalling? I was going to do this today but I will try your updater link first.

    A repair is done through the Add or Remove Programs control panel, Change instead of Remove, then Repair.

    Have tried using updater on one computer. it didn't make any difference. I used the x86 version as it contained the scan engine, thei32 ver didn't. So i did an uninstall / reinstall and it cured it!
    ( Had to reinstall licence manually though). I will do the others soon but i might now try the repair option first.

    Will keep you informed.

    Have tried doing a repair but did not cure the fault.
    The only way i could get scan engine back was to uninstall the A / V Client prog and reinstall.
    I now have updates working again!
