We have 2 front end web servers (Sharepoint) that we want to to put SSE v5.2 on I'm new to Scan Engine and have been reading the Implementation guide and have a few questions...

How many load balanced servers are recommeded? 2?

Where can I buy a 3rd party connector for sharepoint?

Aside from configuring SEP so it doesn't scan the same temp directory as SSE, is there anything else regarding the installation I should know about?

    Many thanks.

What do you mean "3rd party connector?"

You can do the scans onbox or on a dedicated box.  Easiest implementation would be on box.  One for each front end server.  Or you create two new servers, or two new virtual servers that will act as a pair of round-robin balanced scanners.  The reason to go with dedicated scanners is for performance.  But it's not really needed, Sharepoint is so slow to begin with ;-P

Other than the exclusion you mention, that is pretty much it.

The  recommended maximum number of managers connecting to a single database is 10 for load balancing and failover scenarios.

Are Symantec Protection for SharePoint Servers 5.1 and Symantec Scan Engine the same product or 2 different products?

So what is the major difference between the 2? (you can use SSE for Sharepoint and other apps?)
