Scan Now option
Created: 21 May 2012 | 5 comments
I have SEP 12.1 RU1 (Client is 12.1.1000.157 RU1) and a user brought to my attention that the option to "scan now" when you right-click on a file, folder or drive is no longer functioning. Not sure when it started, but I know I used that feature last week. You can click in the scan now option in the menu, but nothing ever starts. Anybody see this or have any ideas?

Hello,
For how many systems are you facing this issue?
Are you Logged into the machine remotely?
Incase, if this is an issue on 1 or 2 machines, then probably SEP is not functioning properly. Please Uninstall SEP along with Liveupdate and Reinstall the SEP again.
Hope that helps!!

Are all users experiencing same issue or just one ?
Try loging in to this machine using admin login and check if it works ?
was Sep upgraded ? newly installed , try to Repair it from Add remove and yes Mithun is correct , reinstall it if its just 1 or 2 machines .

All users are experiencing this issue, which leads me to believe it is not a SEP problem but rather a patching issue. We recently rolled out a number of patches (I was just informed it happened Friday) and the first report of this scan now issue was this morning. I'll review the patches that were installed and begin backing them out one at a time if necessary to see if that was the issue and which patch caused it.
I would suggest to remove patches on test machine ,lets not try this on production , if you can replicate same image copy of Prod OS to test OS might help .

If you look at View Logs > Virus and Spyware Protection > Scan log, do you see any traces about your manual scans (ran using right-click > Scan for Viruses)?
Please remember to mark the proper comment as SOLUTION:
- to identify threads that do not require further assistance
- to let other visitors know how to fix such issue
