    I am using SEPM11/SEP11 ru5

from past few weeks i have noticed that administrator scan for my clients takes more than 4 to 5 hours and they are unable to work. I have set admin scan to scan only selected folders on c drive but why it takrs so long don't know. It scans arround 140000 files and takes 5 hours.
what to do .earlier it was completing within 1 hour.

system configuration is still the same  with pentium4 ,512 MB RAM .

any suggetion. scan performance is set high

Set it to Best Application Performance.   That is what I have set on ~700 machines.   Except for on Virtual Machines, it's rarely noticed.

    Hello Bijay,
There are a few tricks for fast scan.
I recommend to delete Temporary files before scan. There are many files in there and take a long time.
And you can pass compressed files (This is not a tecnical support Just idea). Windows works slow when works on folders have more items. For example you can copy 20 mb single files c drive to d drive in 3 second but when you copy 1000 items (total 20 mb) c drive to d drive It takes more time like 7 seconds. therefore your scan will slow when scanining folders have more items.
Did you any change on this computer?

    Best Regards.

Scan is running with Best scan Performance to speed up the scan but still the same. taking more than 4/5 hour on some pc running windows vista.

is there any list of file extension that can or acanot be infected by virus so that i can include or exclude those from schedule scan option. this might solve the problem as real time protection is allways on.

I would suggest disabling the scanning of compressed files.  The action of examining X number of layers deep definitely will make the scan take a LOT longer.  If something is found within a compressed file, no action can be taken, and if an infected compressed file is ever uncompressed, Auto-Protect will take action on the threat as it's attempting to write the files within the archive to the drive.

Unfortunately, Centralized Exceptions apply to both scheduled scans and real-time protection.  The greater number of exceptions you make, the greater the security risk.  I would at least make sure Centralized Exceptions are set for all database file types in use in your environment.
