  • 1.  Schedule a task at agent time

I am looking for a way to schedule a task (reboot) at agent time.  We have computers in all the US time zones and we want to reboot them at 3am local time.  Policy's can be run at agent time but I don't see a way to do it for tasks.

You could create a Policy and add a Task to the Policy.

I tried that using a script task but it just came back as compliant and never ran the script.

Try with a simple script Task that you know works as a Task. Just Echo Done>c:\temp\done.txt

You can also use a Client Task Schedule, which seems to be a seriously underutilized feature. This is how we manage all of our server reboots. We have one restart task that we re-use, with multiple Client Task Schedules that run based on the client's time.

Like so. From Jobs and Tasks, right-click and select New > Client Task Schedule. Add the task that you want it to run, add the schedules, and add the target.

The beauty of this is that it doesn't rely on Task Servers at all. This gets queued up on the client like any other policy. Your NS and Task Servers could all be down and your task will still run on schedule. It will also run at the exact time you configure. There's no small delay that could occur if you sent this to a machine like a normal task.

It'd be cool if you could run jobs like this somehow, too, but it's just for individual tasks.
