Created: 26 May 2013 | 11 comments

Hi,

We have 6 site with single update provide in each site, we does not have enough bandwidth in one of the site to to update on group update provider while business hours. So I want to schedule the live update on group update provider after business hours. All the clients on that site is updating from group update provider only.

GUPs cannot be scheduled to retrieve updates at a specific time.

It is important to understand that a SEP client's roles as a GUP (update proxy) and a client are separate. Although you can schedule when a SEP client runs LiveUpdate or configure the heartbeat, that same scheduling does not apply to the GUP functionality, nor does the heartbeat interval.

The GUP will request updates from the SEPM on demand, when a client is requesting an update that the GUP does not currently have. Primarily these should be only smaller delta updates- not full packages, as this feature is designed to preserve bandwidth. There may be cases where the GUP does request a full update: when a client is so far out of date there is no delta that can cover it. However, once the GUP has that file, it will store it for as long as it is configured to do so.

"Thumbs up" to Ajit's advice- GUP updates cannot be scheduled.  Only LiveUpdate sessions can be scheduled.

With thanks and best regards,

Mick

Thanks for the update Mr Ajit...

SEPM client update is OK with us as we have enough "Leg" Space in LAN, we have shortage of bandwidth on WAN link.

No schedule,  then is there any way I can stop GUP update and manulay copy the defenition to GUP?

Yes you can't schedule gup update.

Check this IDEA

Hi,

You can’t schedule the update of a GUP, to set the QOS like bandwidth restrictions.

Hi,

If you are facing bandwith issue in your branch that time you can stop symantec services of GUP machine.

GUPs are not always connected to the SEPM unless they are set to be by their policy. A GUP in Push Mode will, as all clients, be in constant contact with the SEPM. A GUP in Pull Mode will make connections to the SEPM based on their heartbeat interval. Just a point of clarification.

Thank& Regards,

Ambesh

Thanks Techies.....

Copying manulay shared folder content from GUP to GUP make scense. Hope symantec will consider GUP update schedule on upcoming versions as it is creating thick pipe on the WAN.

Thank you all

Hello,

Copying manulay shared folder content from GUP to GUP make scense.

I think manually working is not a good idea.

In your case, you may like to think of Installing LiveUpdate Administrator.

Group Update Provider v/s Liveupdate Administrator

Hope that helps!!
