Schema Version Mismatch After 11d -> 12 Upgrade

Created: 21 Apr 2008 • Updated: 22 May 2010 | 1 comment

We had Backup Exec 11d with all the current hotfixes running on a Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 SP2 box.  I performed an upgrade to 12 and did not get any errors and the only warnings were related to Exchange 2007.  The install seemed to complete just fine.

I left all the boxes checked (LiveUpdate, Readme, Restart) and let the installer reboot the server.  After rebooting and logging in LiveUpdate downloaded but could not install 4 hotfixes due to schema errors.

After looking in the Event Viewer, I noticed some Backup Exec-related services not running.  In the Event Properties the Event ID is 57804 and the Description is The Backup Exec Server Service detected a schema version mismatch

After Googling and looking through the Symantec forums I tried a few things including using BEUtility to recover the databases but that didn't help.  I really don't want to blow away those DBs and create new ones if I can avoid it.

Other ideas?

So, after running BEUtility again and looking at the diagnostics, I saw the following:

Database Server:
Database Instance:
Database Name:           BEDB
Database Path:           C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data
Database Size:           52.69 MB
Catalog Schema Version:  12.0
ADAMM Schema Version:
Server Schema Version:   11.0000
SQL Server Login Mode:   Windows NT
SQL Server Audit Level:  failure

Googling around some more I found the following guide that resolved the issue.

Basically, you just need to run the following two .sql files in this order against your BEDB:
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\dbupgrade11.5.sql
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\dbupgrade11.5-viewandsp.sql
