I go through one ppt of Symantec Critical System Protection in which they mention SCSP is able to prevent phishing attack. I have one doubt Phishing attack means we create a fake page to steal username and password of our victim. Now my question is-

Is it possible to detect/prevent Phishing attack through SCSP?

    Hi Anie,

Actually SCSP is not able to detect Phishing attack, But we can prevent desktop phishing attack with SCSP. Actually in desktop phishing, Attacker edit the host file of target system with his IP address to particular website. When Victim tries to open the same website his request redirect to Attacker IP Address. In Desktop Phishing Hosts file plays the Important role and with SCSP we can give read only premession to hosts file. After that attacker is not able to edit the hosts file on target machine.

You can go through the above articles as provided by pete to know how SCSP prevents desktop phishing.

Hi Anie, the answer is no. If you want to block phishing attack through SCSP, then it not possible if the Attacker is using Tab Napping Method or he directly send you a link of his fake page. SCSP is able to prevent if the attacker is using Desktop Phishing Attack.
