  • 1.  SD7 Server Requirements

So I've been tasked with upgrading our HD 6.5 to SD7 which is all fine and dandy but the request is to also use Server 2008. I have it installed and can actually use SD7 (mostly) but the issue is that I can't submit tickets, I get some pretty constant errors. The issue, I imagine, is that Server 2008 R2, that we're using, comes with .Net 3.5 SP1 as its only option. So I guess I have a couple of questions. First, does anyone know a workaround or a way to get rid of 3.5SP1 on Server 2008 and if not, even though the documentation doesn't specify (that I've seen), the preferred server version is 2003 x64 and not any 64-bit server. Second, does anyone know or has Symantec stated that they are working on supporting .Net 3.5SP1 so that we can use Server 2008 which is the preferred server platform for our Systems team.

    Thanks!

Please refer to https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=49140&p=1 to know the requirements.

Hi Fabrice, thanks the KB but not enough. Must say & explain also we must have another win32 server to use as CMDB7/SMP7 platform.
Because to host the required CMDB + Licences, we must install a Symantec Management Platform v 7.0, to download the source for installing the separate x64 SD7 server...

Of course, we can also use a single Harware server: install x64 W2003 OS, x64 SQL 2005, VMware or another Virtual host software, and install the SMP/CMDB w32 2003 platform into a virtual machine ;-)

Pascal, as a new SD user/admin myself, I've found out that this product's lacking on updated, or well written, documentation. Do yourself a favor and call Symantec's tech support direcly and you'll get your answer faster.

In my new environment, I have SD running on a 64bit Win2K3 server, Notification Server runs on a 32bit Win2K3 server and so does my SQL 2005 server.
