I have upgraded from vs. 7.0 to 8.0 and now I get this error. Does anyone have a solution?

Folks,
Have you found a solution to your problem? I'm working on this and if you are willing to work with me, I'd like to open a support case and work this further. RBall is working with me now on this now. Just reply to this message and I'll contact you.

Michael,
Are you using BESRM with BESR? If so, is your indexing server a stand alone unit or is it part of your BESRM server?
Has anyone been able to solve this issue?
I have this same issue on Norton Ghost 14 that I'm trialing right now. I've always used Norton Ghost in the past and been very pleased with it.
I'm disabling the 'Google Search' option and hopefully the incremental will backup okay this time.
I've tried using Liveupdate and it says all programs are up to date. Any ideas support?
I'd like to purchase the program if I can get this bug worked out?

A similar error occurs if the drive labeling is missing, see if stopping the BESR services and startup item, and then adding a label, then restarting the service allows incremental updates to occur with the option enabled.
Michael -
Are you using build 8.03? If so, are you running any other backup utilities on this machine?

Wow - that's an interesting catch David. I do not have a label on my Drive C (being backed up) - but do on my backup drive (external SATA D: drive). I'll do this and post the results back.
Thanks - Kevin
Thank you, and if anyone else has this error if you like send me or Andreas an private message and/or see if labeling the drive corrects the issue.
Search engine cannot be enabled for this incremental image.
I have BESR 8.5. The backup worked fine for a month. Then I received an automatic update. After that I receive the discussed error message. Disabling google search engine does not seem to solve problem. Has anyone sloved this problem? Thanks. James
Search engine support cannot be enabled for this incremental Im.
I just posted a question regarding this error. How is it corrected? Thanks. James
error message: Search engine support cannot be enabled, etc.
In BESR 8.5 go to Home, "Run or Manage Backups", My Computer Backup, Next, Next, uncheck "enable search engine support for Google Desktop and Backup Exec Retrieve", next, next, next, finish. To recover files and folders go to start, programs, Symantec, Backup Exec Recovery, Recovery Point Browser, select recovery point, select files and folders to recover, press recover. Symantec is working to correct error so that above procedure is not necessary. James
I have this issue as well,
I have this issue as well, on a server with two drives labelled C: System and D: Data. So no option for adding a name to my drives. Disabling search feature clears the error but this is a feature I want to use.
error in log is

Switching off the Google Desktop search seems to resolve it
I also encountered this problem. Switching off the google dektop search function seems to resolve the issue.
Strange that Norton still hasn't been able to resolve this issue after more than a year.
Hope that helps

Search engine support cannot be enabled for this incremental ima
I am on Norton 14.0, version 14.0.0.24815, on Windows Vista. The Google Desktop search engine is NOT enabled and I still get this message. Any suggestions?
You do not loose
You do not loose functionality if you remove the check from the search engine support. This feature is enabled in the event that you want Google Desktop to search the contents of the file on the fly.
As a note, it is possible to view and extract the contents of the image file by either mounting the image and assigning it a drive letter (read only), or by opening the image in the Recovery Point Browser (read only). Either way, you can copy the contents of the image file to another location (i.e., your desktop, another drive, etc) without disrupting the image file or its content.
If you are encountering the 'Search engine support cannot be enabled...' error, edit the backup job (or create a new job), and uncheck the option to Enable Search Engine Support.
Kind regards,
Andreas

Error:-e0bb0191
I received this error every time I tried to run incremental updates, during the past 9 months, until to-day when I was directed to the following Link.
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/301460.htm
Do I lose funtionality of the programme by disabling search enjine support. My OS Vista Home Prenium SP2..Norton Ghost 14 version 14.0.5.34587
Search engine support cannot be enabled ... Error e0bb0191
I have been using Norton Ghost 14 for about a year. I just started seeing
this problem after I installed the latest update to Ghost via LiveUpdate at
the end of August. My current version is 14.0.5.34587 . My OS is Windows XP
Pro SP3 with all the updates from Microsoft Update. I am also running Norton
360 Version 3.5.2.10 on the computer. If it matters, I have defined two
users in Windows and both are usually logged on when the backup runs.
I am quite disappointed to see that this problem has been in existence for a year and a half and exists in versions as disparate as 8.0 and 14.0. Symantec: get on the stick!!!

Is anyone running BESR 8.5.5 and still have this issue?
If you are running an earlier build of BESR 8.5, please update to 8.5.5 and report back with results.
Thanks,
Chris

New user... Same Error!
I purchased Ghost 14 via download last week and made an initial backup with no problems. Nicely intuitive up until the error message that this thread is about appeared at the first (and each subsequent) incremental backup attempt.
Today I got onto a support professional (after readling this thead - I thought my involvement might help in finding a proper solution) but he just took control of my computer and unticked the 'enable search engine support' function. I could have done that.
He told me that this function doesn't work on incremental backups.
This thread suggests to me that it should... Or have I misunderstood?
Anyway, my incremental backups are fine now but if this functionality is *officially* not working on incremental backups then perhpas something shoud be added to the program to tell users so that they don't waste their time?
When I tried to enable search engine functionalithy with a password protected backup it gave me a warning that it wouldn't work. As there is no such warning for simple incremental backups, one might assume that it should work. But it doesn't.
Still some work to be done on this one methinks!
I just added to the thread as the Symantec Employees who've contributed and say they're working on it have said that it's rare and they can't reproduce it. It was my first experience of using Ghost 14 and the fact that it happened to me dampened my enthusiasm for the product somewhat.
Pete , Yes, this feature is
Pete ,
Yes, this feature is intended to work and it is unfortunate that it does not for some people. The purpose of this feature is to allow users to use Google desktop to index the image file for searching and disabling it does not affect the backup create or restore process. This is an open case and we will continue to work on it, doing whatever it takes to duplicate and resolve the issue.

Me too
I have been using Ghost 14 for over one year. I just ran into this "problem". I had to look around to uncheck the "enable search..." but I found it and my backups are running.
I have only had this one problem everything else has been perfect. Of course my product needs to be updated each year in November so the "enable search..." hit me at the wrong time. That tends to make developers mad, but I'll get over it.
Same Problem here too
I've been using Ghost V14 for about 6 months now and ran into this about a week ago. V. 14.0.0.24815 on Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2. I too have disabled search facility and backup just ran ok.
Was of some concern yesterday when my PC appeared to not boot...
Disabling the search engine
Disabling the search engine support would have not had any impact on this functionality. This might be attributed to Vista.
