Hello,

We are using linux PXE for deployment of our Windows XP Hardware independent images.
At this moment we have a new type of machines (HP Compaq 6000 pro small form factor format).
When i distribute our image, i get the message "The disk was not found".

Because it is a new type of machine with ICH10d/d0 sata drivers for the disk(s). The image can not be sent to the disk.
The vendor is Intel (8086) and the device type is 30A2

Has anyone already compiled the latest drivers?
Is it possible to get them?
Is there a link at the altiris site where these drivers can be downloaded?

I'm using Altiris DS 6.9 SP1 build (365)

Thanks a lot.

Jean

Yeah... the version of Linux

Yeah... the version of Linux available with DS 6.9 SP3 uses an updated kernel that works a lot better with newer HP machines. If upgrading to SP3 isn't an option, and you aren't moving towards Windows 7, updating the Linux boot files is still a good decision.

Same, that username/password

Same, that username/password doesn't appear to like to work.

Yes, if you just put the SP3 linux frm file in the SP2 folder, it will automatically install that version, or you can manually add the boot files.

I tend to always blow away my Bootwiz/BWPkgs/PXE folders when changing versions of anything and do a reinstall, so that I know that all of the files will be consistent. But whether you do a boot file installation, an upgrade of PXE in place, or a clean PXE reinstall, the updated files should work. If you try one and it fails, I'd suggest moving to the clean installation though...

Found us an answer to the

Found us an answer to the login issue. AKB 22621 has the answers... basically, it's epmftp not empftp.

Question

Where can users download the installation files for Deployment Server, including previous versions?

Answer

Users can download different versions and builds of Deployment Server from:

ftp://ftp.altiris.com/Product/Deployment_Server

(User = epmftp             Password = Altiris123)

The latest version of Deployment Server can be downloaded from:

Downloaded the linux drivers

Downloaded the linux drivers (bdcgpl_6.9.9172.frm).

But it didn't work. The disk is still not recognized.

Seems like compiling the drivers is the only option left......:(

Thanx for your replies. If anyone knows a solution. Please let me know...

What's the exact error

What's the exact error message it gives when you try to use those files? Are you trying to add them with 'Have Disk' or by doing 'Install Pre-boot Operating System Files'? If you're trying to do it with Have Disk, you'll probably need to actually install the new Kernel with the Pre-boot choice, as it's actually a different compilation...

Possible, but in our case,

Possible, but in our case, when we deploy an image with this value incorrectly set, it still distributes, it just fails to actually boot Windows following...

However, just about all new HP machines won't work with versions of the Linux Automation distributed with DS 6.9 SP2 and before. There's some broken part that got fixed when they moved it to SUSE and changed Kernel versions. So if you're using older Linux and you have problems with the network not working properly, easiest fix is to install the new automation OS and just rebuild your images...
