I am trying to encrypt 3TB Seagate external drive. Windows sees the drive. However when I select Encrypt Disk in SED UI, SED appears to recognize only the C: drive

    Hi johnp14,

Try to run an msinfo (Start > cmd> msinfo32.exe) report and verify Bytes/Sector of the external disk. If you can see there Bytes/Sector 4096 it means drive is partitioned as 4k native. If the drive is not supporting 512e emaulation then you can only try to repartition the HDD into two smaller partitions less than 2TB each to be supported by SED. You can also try the latest version od SED 10.3.2 MP1 (as you did not mention which version you are currently using). SED 10.3.2 MP1 has got some fixes detecting drives over 2TB so in some cases it might work but again it is random.

    Hi Adam,

I appreciate your reply. msinfo shows the Seagate is 4096 bytes/sector, but I would think it supports 512e emulation. Nevertheless I will probably just partition it since my maintenance is up and I don't want to have to buy 10.3.2.

    Hi John,

As per one of our KB's you can always check if the disk works in 512e:

How to check if an hard drive is Advanced Format (AF) disk in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH194586

Nevertheless if you wish to partition your drive in many cases which I came across this was the right direction.
