Try changing the controllers settings

Hello,

Generally the error occurs on machines with a BIOS setting for hard disk operation set to AHCI. For Dell computers, this may be labelled "SATA Operation", and on HP computers this is usually listed as "SATA Native Mode", which would need to be disabled. After switching the setting to ATA or turning SATA Native Mode off, depending on the machine model, the system will start normally.

Check the Bios settings

if it is set for AHCI try to change it to ATA or the other available options and reboot and check

If that still does not work

If you are running the version of Symantec Endpoint Encryption 8.2 without any service pack. You  should get a client test install of the latest SEE release and test with that and check.

The quickest think top secure

The quickest think top secure your data would be to use the access CD.  This will give you access to the disk and allow you to copy the data off.  You are then better placed to investigate the issue without the risk.

The access CD comes as part of the installation and you will need the password that was used when creating the MSI to access it.

Compatibility list

Symantec, should publish a document like compatibility list (disk brand /model etc.) or widen its hard disk support.

It takes very long time to get data back if you have problem while installing.

Same Storage Controller error message

I am using 8.2.0 on a Motion CL900 and have experienced this same error. Has anyone come up with a fix? I have contacted SEE technical support with no response. it appears this is a common error. The CL900 does not have an option to change the hard drive to ata. Help would be appreciated.
