  • 1.  SEE removable storage encrypting of Outlook PST files

With SEE removable storage enabled will Outlook be able to see and read a .pst file stored on the flash drive?  Our company has a strick policy regarding how much disk space an individual may utilize on the exchange server.  As a result many people have not resorted to placing .pst files on 8GB flash drives in order to avoid getting nasty messages from IT.  The company is planning to go to SEE-removable storage edition and of course this will affect the .pst files stored there.  This is not an issue if Outlook can continue to use them.  If not this will be a big issue.  So the questions are, will Outlook be able to continue to use the .pst files transparently on the flash drive?  Will user intervention be required?  Is this a bust and .pst files will no longer be usable on the flash drives?

    Thanks

    Bob

Outlook will still be able to access the files on an external drive without any issues.  We use Guardian Edge and as long as a default encryption password is entered in the user utility, everything is transparent.

That makes me feel better because we use Outlook extensively for collaborative work.  Each of us have a very small disk quota on the server so we are always getting nastigrams about deleting things from our Outlook account.  One solution is to us a flash drive to store the .pst.  The price of them is low and the capacity high compared to our meager 300MB disk quota.  However to use the flash drive they all need to be encrypted which set a chill up my spine regarding how Outlook would view the .pst file, if at all.
