Sr. Systems Engineer

SUMMARY:
The Senior Systems Engineer provides technical server and product support of the GMOs Windows and Linux corporate location and its global offices. This role focuses on architecture, management, deployment and maintenance an asset management initiative. The incumbent should be familiar with ITIL practices and associated implementation of a CMDB as well as experience with enterprise project deployments. The Systems Engineer must have an extensive knowledge of IT infrastructure; i.e. System Administration, Database management, Application Support within a Microsoft operating systems environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitoring and reporting on health/performance of the directory, and documentation on all procedures and configuration related
Incorporate security, monitoring and metering requirements into the Windows hosting platform architecture
Improving business process using Altiris Total Management Suite modules including; Service and Asset Management and Server Management Suite.
Improve and execute initiatives for use of the modules Client Management, Deployment solution, Helpdesk Solution, Change Management module, Patch Management using Altiris or other Deployment/Patch Solution
Evaluates system performance and make recommendations for improvement
Act as an advisor to IT support teams regarding projects, tasks, and operations
Be part of on call phone escalation rotation schedule
Manages problem resolution and workflow through issue tracking system
Escalation point for Altiris reports and incidents

Server support activities:
System analysis as required or requested
System Best Practices execution
Monitoring & alerts
Capacity planning
Patch management
Documentation
Solutions architecture

Implement configuration changes
Experienced in Dell and HP Server products line support in a data center environment.
Collaborate with team to develop server and storage strategy
Prepare reports for management as required
Represent IT Operations at various community and/or business meetings

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to review and evaluate Windows system performance and requirements
Familiar with a variety of the IT operation and workflow concepts, practices, and procedures
Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
Extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Knowledge of business practices and procedures
Ability to advance a cooperative work environment
Ability to perform server analyses and convey in documentation.
