Sehr langsames Backup vom Fileserver mit Windows 2012

Created: 18 May 2014 | 5 comments

Hallo,

Are you backing up this VM as a VM or as a physical machine? If it is the latter, then it is understandable because a large number of files takes longer to backup than a few big files

I back it up as a physical Machine, bur i have a second fileserver (also windows 2012), with about 4700000 files, which backs up in about 29 hours.

There are a lot of other factors to be considered, liken disk fragmentation, number of VM's on the same host, etc.

Hi,

How are your backups run? Across the LAN or is there a SAN involved which the media server is/can be attached too?

If the latter, you might want to look into SAN Transport Mode which will allow you to backup those servers faster.

If not, it might be worth your while looking into changing your backup strategy from a (assuming!) FULL to a DIFF/INCR backup, or even deduplication.

Thanks!

Would recommend to start off with this - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=DOC5481

And as suggested above, consider backing up the VM using the Agent for Vmware instead of using the RAWS agent.
