Sending updates to managed server, but not to install them updates

Created: 05 Feb 2013 | 2 comments

Hi there,

My company has some servers that will need to do security updates regularly but out of maintenance windows time which is 12:01 AM - 5:00 AM. What I would plan to do is to use Altiris SMP to deliver the update only, and let other party to manually install those updates. Would you please advise if Altiris could just deliver the updates?

Note:  These servers are not allow to go out internet to receive updates via Windows Auto live update.

Thank you so much,

Charlie.

One option is to create a policy with an installation schedule of sometime WAY in the future. Then the updates will get queued up for install and then the respective admin can start the install anytime he wishes. For example, I've seen companies schedule installation for like 1 Jan 2050 :)
