SEP 11 causes slowness on 32bit Server 2008 SP1
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 5 comments
We have a Dell 1950 running Windows Server 2008 32 bit with SP1. It runs fine until we install SEP 11 (we downloaded the latest version Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.2020_MR2_MP2). Then it runs for a while (a few hours, maybe a day or two) and then connectivity to the server slows to a crawl.
We only installed the AV piece, not the network threat protection. Nor did we install the AV server. Network scanning is off on the clients and I believe it was off on the server (I've since uninstalled SEP from the server to allow people to work).
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Can you open a command line and run the command netstat -an > capture_openports.txt, look at the outputted text file to confirm if there are many ports open on 9090 with a CLOSE_WAIT state.
I ran netstat -an and port 9090 is not open, but I assume that's because I uninstalled SEP.
If I do find, after reinstalling, that there are many open ports on 9090, what's the solution?
My domain controller has a single folder and about 40 users access some files and one access database
After a week it would crash until I addedd the Regedit
Since the fix on that page I have been able to run for 175 days with no issues.
This was on server 2003 32 bit with no teamed adapters.
Hello Dr. Phil Leonard,
It would definitely help to get you on the latest version (MR3 11.0.3001.2224) of Endpoint Protection as some issues regarding Windows Server 2008 have been resolved in that build.
Hope that helps!
Thanks, I'll give it a try. But I can't for a few weeks, I've burned up a lot of credibility with my users and boss.
Unfortunately for me, this was released the very day that I downloaded 11.0.2020.
