  • 1.  SEP 11 - Client status confusing

The client icon in the status bar appears a little confusing.

In our environment everyone uses Outlook; no Notes or Internet E-mail. However if I define a policy to disable Notes and Internet E-mail protection the client icon displays a red problem indicator.

Similarly if I disable File auto-protect on a server (see related post) the client status indicates a problem.

Surely the status should be green as long as it matches the policy setting. I would have expected red to indicate a mismatch between policy and client settings or some other failure condition.

    Am I missing something?

Sounds like the feature set of the install package you're using to deploy the client includes the Lotus Notes Scanner and POP3/SMTP Scanner. Disabling them via policy won't remove the error unless you lock them from being enabled. Alternatively, you can create a custom package without those features and run an upgrade against those clients. The features will be removed and the error will clear up without locking those options in your Antivirus and Antispyware policy.

    Hope this helps.
