SEP 11 MR4 rollback installation in Vista

Hi,
I have a Vista Client that we need to enroll in a new Win2k8 Domain, after doing that I uninstalled SEP MR3
and then Installed MR4 because the upgraded does not work.

The problem is that the installer does not finish, it rollback the changes and exit.

I think the problem is:

Action ended 21:48:50: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.

The Log SEP_INST.LOG look like this at some point:

Deleted folders:

C:\program files\symantec\liveudpate

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate

And try to install install liveupdate first & then try to install SEP

1. Uninstall LU

 2. Delete the following folders (if they exist):

C:\Program Files\Symantec
Install LiveUpdate by running the following file from CD1:\SEP\LUSETUP.EXE4.Install Symantec Endpoint Protection. from SEP folder of CD1 as unmanged  and the make the client as managed . 

C:\Program Files\Symantec Antivirus

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate

1. Copy of the file Sylink.xml from the server from C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\outbox\agent\

2.  On the client computer , click Start > Run, type smc -stop, and click OK.

3.  Copy the Sylink.xml into the C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection folder, and replace any existing Sylink.xml file.

4. Click Start > Run, type smc -start, and click OK.

If this steps does not work then Try installing MR4 MP2 version of SEP & check if that works?

1. Uninstall Symantec

1. Uninstall Symantec LiveUpdate and SEP MR3 from Programs and Features
2. delpoy MR4 like normal.

Many thanks for all your comments, I try all those instrucciones with no avail.

The problem persist and maybe the only solution is to re-install Windows Vista. You gotta looove Vista!

NOTE: Remember to make a backup of the registry prior to making any changes.
 
1.      Open the Registry
2.      Find the following key:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData

value=%APPDATA%

 

3.      Change the value to:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData

value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

 

4.      Attempt install again
