  • 1.  SEP 11 MR5 not allowing Novell 3.2 IPX traffic - blocking nwlnkipx.sys

Unmanaged client - Having trouble getting the firewall to pass outgoing traffic generated by nwlnkipx.sys (the built in MS Novell client for Win XP)
With prior releases (up to MR4) this was never an issue, I never had to setup any rules, it just worked

I have setup an ALLOW in the application section for nwlinkips.sys, but it showing outgoing traffic is still being blocked when I view the traffic.

    Any help appreciated.

Thanks - Looked like that doc was for a managed client, I tried to make it work with my unmanaged client - not able to make it work using a firewall rule with the MAC address of the Novell server AND another firewall rule with the MAC address of the unmanaged client, but was able to make it work using a firewall rule of ALL Hosts and ALL Ethernet types. I'm a little worried now, is that rule defeating the whole firewall or will I still have protection on IP traffic

Looks you have made it wide open.

Remove that rule let firewall block it.

Open SEP - View Logs - Network Threat Protection - Traffic Log

    Arrange it by time
    Check what is getting blocked
Check it from left to right  IP, MAC,port, protocol ,Direction and application.
Now based on this create a new rule.

I installed version 11 on a Win XP SP3 and was no longer able to login into my Novell servers.  Novell servers are old, so I ended reverting to 10.1, but with that coming to an end of life, I'm wondering if 11 will work?

I am wondering the same thing. We are experiencing the same thing with some users and not all.
