    Hi,

I have been running SEP 11.0.4014.26 with LUA for some time now (with about 3k endpoints). I am finding LUA increasingly to be a pain in the backside... its always causing me issues.

Is there any simple way to remove LUA from a well established server and let SEPM take over the updates?

    Hello,

In your case since all the clients are managed, simply update the Liveupdate Policy from SEPM and remove the Liveupdate Administrator and Enable the Liveupdate from Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

Later, Uninstall the Liveupdate Administrator Application from Add/ Remove Programs of the machine.

    Hope that helps!!

Thanks for the reply, but I do not want to uninstall and reinstall LUA

I want to uninstall LUA, then take it outside... jump up and down on the CD and burn the manuals!

I then want to configure SEPM do the take over the updates directly (as if I had never installed LUA)

    Hello,

Could you please specify the reason you are so upset about LUA?

What version of LUA are you running?

Make sure you are running the Latest version of LUA 2.3.2

Check this BLOG - LiveUpdate Administrator (LUA) version 2.3.2 is now available

    Hope that helps!!

Basically, you need to modify your LiveUpdate policy to reflect the SEPM as the main updater. You can take your LUA out and set the SEPM to do these updates, as seen below:

Mithun's post (with screenshot) shows you what you need to do to LiveUpdate policy to direct the clients to get updates from the SEPM and take LUA out of the loop. Then it is just a matter of uninstalling LUA through Add or Remove Programs.

Edit: Brian's post, with screenshot, shows the same info.

Thanks for all the help... That worked great.

One last question (hopefully). SEPM is now updating clients and I have uninstalled LUA

However, I notice I have still got a folder "C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate Administrator1" that is 4gb in size. This looks to me as if it belonged to LUA? I could do with the space back if it is no longer needed. However, I am still using SEPM on the same box (which is a w2003) so I obviously do not want to delete it if it is being used by SEPM ?

    Hello,

Could you also check if the SEPM is no more receiving the updates from Liveupdate Administrator.

    You could check this by:-

    1) Log in to SEPM

    2) Click on Admin TAB

    3) Click on Servers

    4) Right click on "Local Site" and click on "Edit Properties"

    5) Click on Liveupdate

    6) Under Liveupdate Source Servers, click on "Edit Source Servers"

    7) Click on "Use the default Symantec Liveupdate Server"

Secondly, Did you uninstall the Liveupdate Administrator (LUA) from the Add/ Remove Programs?

If yes, I see no reason, you need to keep that folder "C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate Administrator1".

You surely could delete the Folder.

NOTE: Before deleting the Folder, just double check the contents are of LUA only. smiley

    Hope that helps!!

No, the files within that folder should not be associated with the SEPM in any way, so if LUA is fully uninstalled, I think you can safely remove it.

"Thumbs up" to the advice, above, about being able to delete that folder.

This looks to me as if it belonged to LUA? I could do with the space back if it is no longer needed. However, I am still using SEPM on the same box

That may be one reason why your LUA server never functioned well in your environment: it is unsupported to have LUA on the same server as a SEPM.  They contest for the same resources.
