  • 1.  SEP 11 to SEP 12 Migration using replication

Our current environment is 2 SEPM with 1 external SQL DB. A suggested migration path to keep the old environment is to use DB replication to migrate from 11 to 12.

The idea is to build a 2nd DB to replicate to with 2 new SEPM servers and then break replication and upgrade the new SEPM and replicated DB to SEP 12. Once stable remove the existing SEP 11 and DB.

Questions on this are what happens with the primary server? I have heard that with the primary server removed and the first DB gone then you effectively don't have a primary server and you cannot replicate to another DB again.

Is there a way to make 1 of the new servers primary?

Is there a way to replicate from the replicated DB or make it the primary DB?

How to temporarily substitute a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) that performs Replication with another SEPM within the same Site
