Is SEP 11 supported on Windows 7 RTM now?

Since we have started to use Windows 7 RTM now I am interested in knowing if SEP 11 fully supports that or not.
The only information I have found is some forum posts indicating that it does not work.

If SEP is not working we need to find some other product.

So, is SEP supporting Windows 7 RTM currently or not, or what is the status?

You may check these links

Symantec EndPoint Protection version 11.0 is also capable of playing nice with both Windows 7 client and Windows Server 2008 R2 (Windows 7 Server). According to the company, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.4 can be installed on the Beta development milestones for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. At the same time, the security solution will also install and run on builds from the Release Candidate branch of the operating system, but not on the most recent development milestones made available by Microsoft

.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.4 can be installed on Windows 7 Beta, either 32-bit or 64-bit,” Symantec revealed. “To install MR4 on Windows 7: copy the contents of the Symantec Endpoint Protection folder to your local hard drive or a network share. Run LUSETUP.EXE to install LiveUpdate. Restart the computer. Run SETUP.EXE to install Symantec Endpoint Protection.”

Let me know if this was helpful.

SEP11 MR4 MP5

I'm hearing via my contacts in Symantec that MR4 MP5, expected on 4 Sep 2009, will fully support W7 RTM. The date may change.

Where does this leave my Trialware version of SEP?

I was extremely disappointed that the Trialware download version is 1.0.4000.2295 - not even the latest publicly-available build.
The clock is ticking, and what I have is completely useless for evaluating on Windows 7 RTM.
If there is a way to upgrade a trialware version prior to expiration, Symantec makes it extremely difficult to find out what it is.
Now that I'm working for myself, I can be only worth a few hundred bucks a year to Synamtec, and they make you feel that way.
Apparently there is no interest in helping you at all unless you are already paying a fat annual maintenance fee; and even then, judging by the resposes I've seen in these forums, very little.

Thanks, but I was able to

Thanks, but I was able to find the beta invitation by browsing other threads in this forum. The version I have [11.0.4834.173] works reasonably well on WIndows 7 x64 RTM [7.1.7600] except for Action Center integration.

So my question is, will I be able to get my hands on the released, fully supported RU5 build for limited-time evaluation purposes before making an irrevocable commitment of time & money.

Cheers.

SEP 11.0.4202.75 (latest version) does NOT work on win7 rtm

I can confirm that, at least in some instances, SEP does NOT play well with windows 7 rtm.  I am not sure whether it is a conflict with the OS, some other VPN/networking software I have installed, or a combination, but it completely hangs the system on load until it is removed.

I am hoping very much that the latest version when it is released will truly support win7.  SEP is a great product, and I liked using it, but I have no choice but to leave it uninstalled until it is fixed.

I am having no problems

I am running MR4MP2 and not having issues.   The trick is to just install AntiVirus and Anti Spyware.  If install anything more I was getting problems.

do you happen to be running

do you happen to be running any networking components like Intel PAN or a vpn like openvpn or NCP secure?  or VMware?  I tried installing just those two components, but the same thing happened.

11.0.5002.333 on Win7 Pro RTM Virtual Machine?

I just did a fresh install of SEP 11.0.5002.333 (unmanaged mode without NTP) on a newly-created Win7 Pro (RTM) VMware Workstation 6.5 virtual machine.  Before loading SEP, I ran Windows Update and fully patched the OS as well as turned off Win7's firewall.  The install went smoothly although when the option came up to restart Windows, nothing happened so I restarted the normal way thru Win7's menus.  When the VM got past the normal POST, it hung at a completely black screen!  After waiting awhile, I reset the VM thru VMware's GUI after which the login prompt and subsequent desktop showed up just fine.

Previously, I had installed SEP 11.0.4202.75 on another Win7 Pro (RTM) VM and although I noticed some odd behavior with LiveUpdate, I didn't experience the same restart and forced VM reset problems like I had with the latest SEP 11.0.5 release.  Now I realize 11.0.4 didn't officially support Win7 RTM (only beta?) but these issues I encountered with a fresh OS and SEP install doesn't instill a whole lot of confidence in me where this latest SEP release is concerned.  I'm wondering if this same issue would've occurred on a physical box?  Anyone else try what I did and experienced this same behavior?

A problem with VMware I'd say.

Hi,
I have also seen this problem where our Windows 7 machine freezes, or leaves a blank screen after the POST boot. My opinion is that this is a problem with in VMware. I have only seen this issue on one of our VMware setups. It doesn't matter what image we make, or remake, and it doesn't matter if SEP is installed or not. It just freezes, or refuses to reboot complete (we get past POST, but then the screen just stays blank). Often it seems random, but on a few machines it can be reproduced. What ever 'reproduce' the effect is always different on each VM -- and it seems to always happen just as you make some I/O activity, like saving a file, or launching a program.

We have only seen this only on Windows 7 in one of our vCenters (VMware ESX). We tried to reproduce the problem on a newer edition of vCenter and it seems to be gone. As far as I know WMWare doesn't officially support Windows 7 yet. So until it does, I think this is a VMware issue.
