SEP 11 vs SEPSBE 11
Please forgive my ignorance. I am new to Symantec licensing. We are a small systems integrator and all of our customers have fewer than 100 users. It is my understanding is that they were upgraded from Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10 to something. This is what one our customer has licensed: "SYMC MULTI-TIER PROTECTION 11.0 I/O ESSENTIAL 12 MONTHS"
When I go on FileConnect, I get the following files offered:
Symantec_Mail_Security_for_SMTP_501_Linux_English.tgz 5.0.1
Symantec_Mail_Security_for_SMTP_501_Solaris_English.tgz 5.0.1
Symantec_Mail_Security_for_SMTP_501_Windows_English.zip 5.0.1
Symantec_AntiVirus_10.2.1_MAC_CD.English.dmg 10.2.1
Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.4000_MR4_AllWin_EN_CD1.zip 11.0.4000 MR4
Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.4000_MR4_AllWin_EN_CD2.zip 11.0.4000 MR4
Symantec_Mail_Security_Domino_7.5.6.35_Win32_IN.exe 7.5.6
Information_Foundation_Mail_Security_For_MSE_6.0.8.262_AllWin_EN.exe 6.0.8
Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.4014_MR4_MP1_AllWin_EN_CD1.zip 11.0.4014 MR4 MP1
Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.4014_MR4_MP1_AllWin_EN_CD2.zip 11.0.4014 MR4 MP1
It seems obvious to me that my costomers should be using SEPSBE 11 http://www.symantec.com/business/multitier-protection-small-business-edition however, I think I have been installing the full, enterprise SEP 11 instead http://www.symantec.com/business/multitier-protection How can I tell what I am installing? Does SEPSBE 11 have significatly different files than SEP 11? If someone buys Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 11 and connected to FileConnect, would they see different files from the above? I ask because I don't want to recommend them changing their license if they would just get the same thing. Can I change a license from SEP 11 to SEPSBE 11? If I change a license to SEPSBE 11, can I upgrade to SEPSBE 12 for free?

Here goes..
Hi Drew,
So... stick with me.. this is going to get complicated...
At the moment, we have three "products" (plus one in pre-release)
SEP
SEP Multitier Small Business Edition
SEP Multitier Edition
SEP Small Business Edition 12.0 (pre-release)
So now lets split them out again and tell you what you get:
SEP
SEP 11.0.x
SEP Multitier Small Business Edition
SEP 11.0.x
Symantec Mail Security for Exchange
Symantec Premium AntiSpam for Mail Security for Exhange
SEP Multitier Edition
SEP 11.0.x
Symantec Mail Security for Exchange
Symantec Mail Security for Domino
Symantec Mail Security for SMTP
Symantec Brightmail Gateway virtual license
Symantec Premium AntiSpam
SEP Small Business Edition 12.0 (pre-release)
SEPSBE 12.0
At the moment, it looks like your customer has purchased Multitier... if thats a recent purchase then I would get in touch with us via your normal channels and ask about a refund on that and re-purchase either just SEP, or SEP Multitier Small Business Edition, depending on whether you want protection for Exchange or not.
If you wanted to move to SEPSBE 12.0 when its released, you could do that from SAV pretty easily, but from SEP or SEP Multitier editions it would be harder.
Now let me add this... in the next month, the "suites" will change:
Symantec Multitier Small Business Edition --> Symantec Protection Suite Small Business Edition (will include SEPSBE 12.0)
Symantec Multitier Protection --> Symantec Protection Suite Enterprise Edition
This starts to make things more easy to understand :-)
The key point here is that anything that is called Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition and has a 12.0 in the title is ONE product, whereas SEP Small Business Edition v11 is multiple products (Exchange protection)
Does that make sense?

Thanks for the info
What you shared was very helpful. However after some more research, it appears to me that at the moment, you have four current "products" :
SEP
http://www.symantec.com/business/endpoint-protection
SEP Multitier Edition
http://www.symantec.com/business/multitier-protection
SEP Small Business Edition
http://www.symantec.com/business/endpoint-protection-small-business-edition
and
Symantec Multi-tier Protection Small Business Edition
http://www.symantec.com/business/multitier-protection-small-business-edition
which looks like SEPSBE with email protection (I think you were calling this one SEP SBE in your post). The SEP SBE in this post doesn't have email protection.
But, really you have been very helpful. Thanks for all your help on these forums.
Oops
I just saw that http://www.symantec.com/business/endpoint-protection-small-business-edition is apparently pointing to version 12...I didn't catch that at first..
Can you upgrade...
...from SAV CE 10 to SEP SBE 11?
Or do you have to go to the full SEP 11 from SAV CE 10?
If you can do either, is there a difference in cost (typically)?
Upgrade
Hi Drew
If you are a SAV CE customer and want to move to a suite (endpoitn proteciton, mail secuirty, anti-spam, backup), I suggest you wait for the launch of Symantec Protection Suite Small Business Edition. (SPS SBE)
This includes SEP SBE 12.0, SMS for Exchange, Anti-spam and Backup for desktops. This product will be available in May.

You can cross grade your customers from SAV CE to SPS SBE -- the cost will be a little higher but you are getting a lot more products.
The other option is to move customers from SAV CE to SEP SBE 12.0. This will be at your current cost of renewal (in fact a little lower) but in this case you are only getting endpoitn protection (no mail or backup products.)
