I have read on the symantec website that SEP 11.0 stand alone can activate the XP Embedded. How is that? Do I need a slf file?

Yes , you need a slf file for that. Contact the customer care and request a licence file with the serial number.

Where will I get the license file if I have SEP 11.0 Stand alone:

Below is the link to where I see that with SEP I can also use Embedded:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/products/sysreq.jsp?pcid=pcat_security&pvid=endpt_prot_1

I'm confused in here.. one said embedded is a separate license and I need a file while the other said, no need for a file.

    Please clarify

    Thanks

    Hi Mjahtetn,

As far as I am aware, SEP 11.x does not use any sort of license files for any type of installation you are doing.

If you see otherwise please let me know.

    You have two options.

    1) You can install the regular SEP onto the embeded platform.

        A) This requires that you have a lot of free room on c:\.   If you have a Wyse with 2GB total C:\ space, this is not an option.

        B) You must have the write filter turned off.   Not all installes of embeded utilize the write filter.  If you do, then updates to the components will cause endless loops.  e.g. 11.0.6 to 11.0.6100.

       C)  If you are using a RAM DRIVE for %TEMP% you must have more than the 32MB-64MB Wyse and others setup.   You need at least 128MB.  So your thin client must have at least 1GB of RAM.

    2)  Use the product built for this;   http://www.symantec.com/en/uk/business/endpoint-protection-for-windows-xp-embedded

This is not included with your Symantec Endpoint Standard/Enterprise license and requieres an additional purchase.

That explains about installation part; we need to wait for Mjahtetn to installl Symantec endpoint protection 11.0..( not embedded one ) and let us know if that indeed ask for license file.

@MjahtetnPlease update the forum with the results

SEP 11.0 does not need a license file for activation  but for embedded, a license file is needed. Its asking me to install a slf file.
