  • 1.  SEP 11.0.2010.25 + Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x64 + Latest Windows Update = Broken?

    Hello-

I have a client running SEP 11.0.2010.25 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x64 box.  I applied the latest round of Windows Updates this past weekend.  After applying the updates, no other client or server machines could access file shares on the x64 server over the network.  Once I removed SEP from the x64 server, everything was fine - no access issues.

    Has anyone encountered similar problems?

    Best,
    Bill

I would recommend that you upgrade to the newest build, (11.0.4014.26) .

You can grab the build from https://fileconnect.symantec.com/licenselogin.jsp?localeStr=en_US

I'd agree with Cycletech.  Forget that Windows 2008 R2 has not released yet or if it has I am really slipping.   There is a know issue with file shares on a 2008 server until your on atleast MR4.

Cycletech - I had no idea that the customer was so far behind on their releases.  I just visited this client for the first time yesterday, and my last exposure to Symantec's Enterprise AV was with SAVEE 10.x.  I'll pull down the latest build.

Rick - The customer is actually running Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 - not 2008! :-)  Server 2008 R2 is supposed to be released alongside Windows 7, but you won't see me loading any customers with it until the tires are kicked for a while.

    Thanks... Bill

11.0.2010.25 (MR2 MP1), was released some time ago. Each major version of the build, say from MR2 to MR3 can contain many many fixes. The MP releases are "in between" releases and are considered minor releases.

Here is a list of where we are since that time:

    SEP/SNAC v11 MR1 11.0.1000.1375
    SEP/SNAC v11 MR1 MP1 11.0.1006.103
    SEP/SNAC v11 MR2 11.0.2000.1567

    SEP/SNAC v11 MR2 MP1 11.0.2010.25     Note: This is your version!

    SEP/SNAC v11 MR2 MP2 11.0.2020.57
    SEP/SNAC v11 MR3 11.0.3001.2224
    SEP/SNAC v11 MR4 11.0.4000.2295
    SEP/SNAC v11 MR4 MP1 11.0.4010.19
SEP/SNAC v11 MR4 MP1a 11.0.4014.26     Note: This is the latest version of the product

Must have not had my Tea yet yesterday (my office mates won't  allow me coffee).   Okay here is one other thing I have seen personally on 2003 what backup software are you using?  I have seen some issues with some backup software and older builds of SEP.  We have seen servers Blue screen or shares become in accessable if Veritas replication agent is loaded.   The blue screen was fixed in MR4 the share being inaccessable was some what intermitent but I haven't seen it since I upgraded to MR4mp1  was really similar to the 2008 issue could be what confused me for a second.
