I'm looking to do an in-place upgrade from SEP 11.0.5 to 12.1.2 and was wondering whether this will be a straightforward process or requires a lot of preparation to ensure success?  I currently have a 11.0.5 SEPM along with SQL 2005 on the same Windows 2003 server supporting about 3000 SEP 11.0.5 clients.  My understanding is that a 12.1.2 SEPM should support SEP 11.x clients but can I upgrade the existing SEP11 clients to the 12.1.2. client from the 12.1.2 SEPM or do I need to utilize 3rd-party software delivery to get this done?

- Yes, this can be done quite easily - in the new 12.1 ru2 SEPM you will have the installation packages for 12.1 RU2 clients - you can apply these to the specified client groups in SEPM so that they upgrade automatically from 11 RU5 to 12.1 RU2 using the integrated autoupgrade functionality:

Hello,

My understanding is that a 12.1.2 SEPM should support SEP 11.x clients but can I upgrade the existing SEP11 clients to the 12.1.2. client from the 12.1.2 SEPM or do I need to utilize 3rd-party software delivery to get this done?

Yes, 12.1.2 SEPM does support SEP 11.x clients and ofcourse you could upgrade the existing SEP11 clients to the 12.1.2.

Here are the Best practices for upgrading to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH163700

The Easiest way to upgrade the clients is via Auto-upgrade feature which is available within SEPM itself. Check this Article: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO17911

and

this Video - https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/videos/upgrade-clients-sep-121-using-auto-upgrade-feature

Hope that helps!!
