SEP 11.0.6 fails to install and rolls back.

    Hello,

    I have a windows 7 machine that had SEP 11.0.2 on it.  I had to uninstall it to fix a LU issue.  I removed both the Liveupdate and SEP products. Since then I have not been able to get SEP 11.0.2 or .6 installed.  It constantly rolls back.  I know when I had this problem the first time, I had to install LU first and then the installer.  Even that is not working.  I have run CleanWipe 11.0.5002.333 as well as CompetitiveUninstall.  It still fails to install after this.

    I still get this error in the log:

    === Logging stopped: 10/15/2010  16:22:16 ===

    11.0.2 cannot run on Windows 7. See this KB for info regarding the

    ( LUCHECK.EXE ) returned 206 error.

    Symantec Endpoint Protection Client (SEP) installation fails and rolls back. Install log shows "( LUCHECK.EXE ) returned 206"

    I understand it couldn't or it wasn't supported.  I had it running by manually installing LU first and then running SEP installation.  Since it was installed, it went past that point and installed the software.  At this point, it doesn't matter as I have uninstalled all SEP products and LU.  Nothing is on the box.  I am trying to install 11.0.6.  I did the same steps and even if I install LU 3.3 or 3.4 it still fails and rolls back. It fails if I don't install it too.

    I know this may sound odd....but it's worth a shot.  we had a simliar issue with 11 RU6a in testing.  We found that running the "setup.exe" Vs. the *.msi file allowed us to get past that issue.  Also, I assume you're running install as an admin on the device?

    It doesn't sound odd. I think I read that in another article some where. I am pretty sure I tried that already but I forget if I ran the the clean utilities before or after it.  I will try it again.  Thanks.

    Have you made sure that the Windows Installer Service is running? Did you rename the MSI file? Sounds goofy but try the 8.3 naming convention and see if that helps. Usually, in my experience the MSI 1603 error is permission or access related.

    You might want to try CleanWipe to get any of the leftover 11.02 install off the system. You can get CleanWipe by calling Symantec techincial support and creating a ticket.

    Symantec Tech Support:

    Hope that helps!

    I reviewed the install log, here's what I see:

    LUCA: InstallLiveUpdate enter.
    LUCA: C:\Users\jerry\AppData\Local\Temp\YDBHIQIM\LiveUpdate\lucheck.exe
    LUCA: InstallLiveUpdate : CreateProcessAndWait( LUCHECK.EXE ) returned 206
    Action ended 16:21:32: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.

    Have you tried the article Cycletech recommended?

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH96534

    Also, make sure you extract the installation from any .ZIP archive it may be in as well as install it from the local drive rather than across the network.

    Another device we had the issue on was corrected by doing steps 1 and 3 from the procedure here: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH96559&locale=en_US Solution 1. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Symantec and delete LiveUpdate (if present). 2 Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec and delete LiveUpdate (if present). 3. Start install of Symantec Endpoint Protection Client.

    Try this

    In the registry,

    Find

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
    value=%APPDATA%

    and change it to

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
    value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

    Install SEP client again.http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH94596&locale=en_US
