When doing a  Live Update it failed with this message.There was a error performing the update. I'm on Moutain Lion.

Can you post the LiveUpdate log? Should be at /Library/Application Support/Symantec/LiveUpdate/liveupdt.log

One thing Iam seeing is when Live Upadete starts  a popup firewall prompt comes up asking to deny or allow the connection and it goes away not allowing me to reply to it.

If your Mac is running OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion), there currently is no SEP for Mac 12.1 that is compatible and supported.

Support for that OSX will come with the upcoming release of SEP 12.1 RU2

If you upgraded your Mac from OSX previous to 10.8 with a SEP Mac client installed, it will "appear" to work correctly but you are in unsupported territory.

The firewall's going to be either a third-party product, or built-in to the OS. SEP for Mac doesn't have a firewall component. A firewall stopping the connection would certainly generate a message like that.

You may need to add exceptions to that firewall to allow the following through:

Sorry to resurrect this topic but im having the same issue.

My MAC OS is 10.8 and is with SEP12RU2, use LUA Server to update but the issue is the same and the log is identical the posted by rsextonjr.

If your client can't reach your LUA server (and your LUA server can otherwise receive updates) and you have no firewall or proxy between client and server, then the firewall that is integrated in to the OS may be blocking connections.

I saw this information too. thx

But today performing others tests i saw that my LUA server has correctly configured the download and distribute task, my MAC OS 10.6 with SEP 11.0.6300 is connecting and downloading the definitions normally (Then i believe not to be a firewall or proxy block ), but my MAC OS 10.8 with SEP 12.1.2 can´t connect the LUA servers.

My LUA servers version is 2.3.0.71, Do i need to upgrade before migrate the Mac Clients for 12.1.2 ?

Is the firewall enabled within OS X 10.8? You may need to configure it, if it is. Refer to: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11309?viewlocale=en_US (You can choose a different language from the dropdown on the right hand side, if you aren't comfortable with the English instructions.)

My LUA servers version is 2.3.0.71.

You are using an older version of LUA. The following document says the newest version is 2.3.2.

How to obtain the latest version of Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator (LUA) 2.x

It also says:

Note: Versions of LUA previous to 2.3.1 utilize versions of PostgreSQL which have reached end of life.  All customers using previous versions of LUA are advised to migrate to the latest release as soon as possible.

I have no way of knowing whether this is related to the problem you're having, but it's a good idea to plan to update the LUA version in the near future.

The problem was generated for a internal infrastructure conflict in, a DNS problem to be more exact.
