We have SEPM at local datacenter running version 12.1 RU1 MP1, and hundreds of remote site clients running SEP 11.0.6100.645 (upgrade to 12.1 coming within next 1-2 months). In the meantime, I'd liked to ensure that defs. received by clients at remote sites come from GUP at the remote site. Do I need to upgrade GUP to 12.1 RU1 MP1, or will the GUP work as designed running v11 (with its SEPM at 12.1)? Thanks!!

It is always recommended to have the clients running the same version as the SEPM but with that being said, no, you can keep your GUP at 11.x. 11.x is supported by 12.1 so it will still work as it should.

It is recommended to the have all the clients (including all GUP) to be migrated to the Latest Version of SEP RU1 and then SEP RU1 MP1.

However, in your case I would recommend to have the GUP migrated to SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1.

As Brian and Mithun said,it's recommend to use same version with manager and clients,however it's very difficult to compare with SEP 11* and 12.1* versions.

For my lots of field experiences i couldn't recommend you to don't upgrade your 11.x clients and also you're thinking about to not upgrading GUPs. In 12.1 lots of improvements for update technologies and GUPs.

So i heavily suggest you to upgrade all your clients to 12.1 and most off all your GUPs.

By the way if you're thinking to upgrade 12.1 in a couple of months,i also suggest you to wait for SEP 12.1.2, there will be lots of improvments,features and also a couple of new things in GUP technology also.
