SEP 12 - How to Exception Processes and/or Services?

    Hi,

I am creating a new exception policy - as well as some directories, vendor also requires some processes to be added as well as services, but not supplied the full path to them.

How can I add these to the policies?

    - Do I have to choose type as 'file' and specifiy the full path to the .exe or

    - Do I (for processes) choose 'application' and add the ******.exe name?

This second approach states it needs to take a few hours to add to database first.  The problem I forsee with the first approach is, if multple processes are ran from different locations I would need to a line for each (?), if I can somehow find this information, so exception'ing' out the ******.exe out by name would be better/preferred.

    Is this possible guys?

    Thank You!

For files, just add the .exe name

Thanks Brian, so no path at all?

What about services - imagine I will need to go into services propery to get the path or exe?

It states to include the full path within the GUI - I appreciate the reply, but may have to test if this will work just with an exe name?  Thanks again.

full path needs to be mentioned.

if its PTP exception then .exe is enough.

Sorry, yes path is needed. I hit send before I finished typing. Tough to maneuver around on my phone :)

    Per the KB article:

In the File text box, type the name of the file.

If you selected a prefix variable, the path should be relative to the prefix. If you selected [NONE], type the full path name of the file.

    Thanks guys,

Hope I don't have mutlple paths to same .exe - this could get messy!

Just for info - what does the 'application' exception do then?  Will both accomplish the same thing?

    Hello,

When using the application exception, you would be able to use the specific application exception rather than a file or a specific extension.

    Hope that helps!!
