    Hey Guys,

Interested to know if anyone has created a junction point with the SEP 12 client to shift virus definitions from a low space C: drive to a D: drive?

I basically have a chunk of servers that are partitioned to 10 GB as a result my servers can not update defs as there is not enough space on the C: drive. My idea was to create a junction point referencing the virus defs location on C: drive but the actual files reside on the D: drive where there is lots of free space. I want to try this as a test first, servers are not virtual.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is SEP 12 junction aware? Any info or advice would be appreciated.

    J

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

There is no supported method by which Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 definitions can be safely moved to another drive. Moving the definitions from their default location may result in unexpected product behavior, may decrease the security protection of the Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 client, and is not recommended.

In some cases you may see customer perform such steps by taking their own chances. But in suc case Symantec will not able to assist if any issue occurred.

How to use a new Drive/Partition to host the Symantec Endpoint Protection virus definition folder content directory without reinstalling

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH158452

You can give this a try,

Create a pointer(symbolic) link to another drive

    - Download the ‘Junction.exe’ program (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896768)
    - Copy the ‘Junction.exe’ to the server
    - Stop the “Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager” service
    - Create a new ‘content’ folder on the new drive
    - Copy all the contents from the “c:\program files\symantec\symantec endpoint protection manager\inetpub\content” folder to the new drive (e.g. d:\content)
    - Delete the content folder from the “c:\program files\symantec\symantec endpoint protection manager\inetpub\” folder
    - Run the ‘Junction.exe’ file
    e.g.
    junction.exe “c:\program files\symantec\symantec endpoint protection manager\inetpub\content” “d:\content”
    - Start the “Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager” service

I was asking about a SEP client though so your information is irrelevent.

I stopped the SEP service, created a junction point and tried to move the virs defs to another drive. I am unable to move them though, even with the services stopped and tamper protection turned off. Frustrating! I thought this would be a good fix for my space issues.
