This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi ,

Could you please recommend me the best configuration of a VM server where we can host SEP 12.1 RU1 console? It should support more than 10000 clients.

Thanks,

Sushanta

Check above might help

Or this

1) It is possible to Virtualize the SEPM on a Virtual Machine

2) Supportability:

3) It is very easy to move a primary SEPM to a virtual machine - check the KB articles provided below:

a) How to point Symantec Endpoint Protection(SEP) clients to a new Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager after you have either uninstalled, are going to decommission or replace the Existing Primary Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM).

As a starting point have a look at this document:

Sizing and Scalability Recommendations
for Symantec Endpoint Protection

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/sites/default/files/Sizing%20and%20Scalability%20Best%20Practices_%20v2.3.pdf

It's not a dedicated virtualization guideline but you get an impression what you need for 10,000 clients.

Hi Sushanta,

our full environment is fully virtualised. Even the SQL DB on both sites and all the SEPM.

A good scale for our server is

CPU: 4 2,27GHz
Memory 6 GB
HDD 50 GB additional diskspace for SEP.
NIC: 1Gbps

So far a SEPM is holding in average 12.000-15.000 systems without any issue.

I guess when you have 2 CPU and 4 GB Memory it should be enough by far.

Hope this helps as real world implementation info.

Cheers, toby
